Journalism Department seeks instructor to teach Investigative Reporting in Fall 2021

The San Francisco State University Journalism Department is looking for a journalist with extensive experience in investigative reporting to teach JOUR 320 Investigative Reporting in the Fall 2021 semester. This is an upper-division undergraduate course that aims to introduce students to the fundamentals of investigative reporting -- finding stories, data analysis, using public records, deep interviewing -- and teach them how to apply these skills to an investigative project.

The course will be taught in person or hybrid (some classes in person and some online.)

Required education and experience:
• At least five (5) years of professional experience as a journalist, ideally with extensive experience doing investigative reporting
• Experience teaching journalism and/or investigative reporting skills

Preferred education and experience:
• A master’s degree in journalism, communications, or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
• At least two years of university teaching experience
• Experience teaching reporting or investigative reporting at the university level
• Experience with data analysis and public records searches
• Familiarity with the needs of a non-traditional, first-generation, culturally diverse student body.
• Experience with contemporary instructional technologies such as learning management systems and teaching via Zoom
