Bachelor of Arts in Bilingual Spanish Journalism

Launched in Fall 2022, the SF State B.A. in Bilingual Spanish Journalism provides students with the necessary tools and skills to report, investigate, produce and write news stories in Spanish and English for print, online and electronic media.

Program Overview

  • Interdisciplinary in nature, the program offers classes in the Spanish, Broadcast and Electronic Communication Arts (BECA), Latina/Latino Studies, International Relations and Journalism departments.
  • The program values students’ bilingual skills, which will prepare them for career opportunities in both languages.
  • Graduates will understand the complexity of the Latino/Latina community in the United States and the rest of the Spanish-speaking world and will be prepared to work with Latino/Latina mainstream media, and also be prepared to work for English language media organizations covering issues affecting Latino/Latina communities.
  • Graduates will be able to apply their learned skills to a variety of positions in the media landscape, from Spanish-language networks and publications, to mainstream media outlets in print, online, radio and TV.
  • Admission requirements: Entering students must be proficient in speaking and writing Spanish. Applicants are required to take an online writing proficiency test.
  • The total units to complete the degree is 120, including 46 units in the major.
