Mother Jones and the Nonprofit Business Model
Overview
Khary Brown, vice president of media sales at Mother Jones
Mother Jones is a reader-supported investigative news organization. Its nonprofit newsroom goes deep on the biggest stories of the moment, from politics and criminal and racial justice to education and climate change.
As VP of media sales at the magazine, Brown oversees sales across all platforms. A graduate of the Urban Studies Department at SF State, he started with Mother Jones as a publishing intern back in 2004. He has helped transition Mother Jones’ advertising offerings, which were once predominantly print-focused, to a roster driven by digital offerings like MoJo’s website, email lists, and podcasts, along with its award-winning magazine.
