Join the Celebration: Journalism Department Senior Showcase
Journalism students in the Spring 2022 cohort of JOUR 695 Senior Seminar will present their capstone projects at a hybrid live/virtual Senior Showcase. The Journalism Department welcomes students and their families, as well as students, faculty and mentors, to this showcase of capstone projects.
You'll hear stories from the Tenderloin with a deep dive into the workings and controversy around Urban Alchemy, as well as from Salinas, home to Latina domestic workers struggling for representation and equity. You'll also learn about the plight of child brides in California and San Francisco's public school efforts to keep music education through the pandemic. You'll hear from millennials and those from GenZ who are quitting their jobs in droves, as well as comedians who will talk of the dark side of the profession (also known as the "sad clown paradox"). Another story explores how compulsory heterosexuality (a.k.a. "comphet") came to power on TikTok after a hiatus from its academic unveiling back in the 1980s. Another reporting effort highlights the challenges and occasional joys of growing older as a model in the Bay Area.
