International Reporting in Kyoto

Spend four weeks in Kyoto, Japan, learning what it's like to be a foreign correspondent. The ieiMedia Kyoto Project runs May 25–June 25, 2027, and is open to students at all class levels as well as recent graduates. No Japanese language is required.

You'll experience Kyoto as a journalist rather than a tourist, getting to know the city and its people while producing work for publication. See what students produced in Kyoto this summer.

What you'll do

• Report on the people, culture and issues shaping Kyoto today
• Conduct interviews with the help of Japanese student interpreters
• Explore neighborhoods and communities most visitors never see
• Build your skills in reporting, writing, photography and multimedia storytelling

Cost and financial aid

The $6,395 program fee covers instruction, lodging, in-country transportation and cultural activities. Airfare and most meals are not included. Students may also earn 3 transferable communications units from the University of Jamestown for an additional $450. The course counts as a journalism elective.

Pell Grant recipient? U.S. citizens who receive Pell Grants may be eligible for a Gilman Scholarship of up to $5,000 toward study abroad. The application deadline is Oct. 1, so now is the time to explore it.
