SF State Journalism Graduation Celebration

Celebrate the SF State Journalism Class of 2023 at our department graduation! All graduates will receive their "World Press Pass," certifying their readiness to tell stories that change our world.

This year's speakers include 2023 SF State Journalism Alumna of the Year Sarahbeth Maney ('19), staff photographer with the Detroit Free Press. Maney captured one of 2022's most memorable images for the New York Times when Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson testified at her Senate confirmation hearing with her daughter, Leila, and husband Patrick beaming from the gallery.

Also addressing the Class of 2023 will be Carlos Avila Gonzalez ('95), San Francisco Chronicle staff photojournalist being honored as Distinguished Alumnus of the Year, and Myron Caringal, current graduate and department undergraduate honors recipient.
