Overview

The Journalism Department and the Journalism Club presents a Q&A with Heather Knight, San Francisco bureau chief for The New York Times.

As San Francisco bureau chief, Heather Knight reports on the biggest stories in the Bay Area and Northern California. A native of Davis and a graduate of Stanford University, she worked for more than two decades at The San Francisco Chronicle, including stints as a City Hall reporter and later as a columnist. She focused on holding city officials accountable and tried to shine a light on real people and their problems. She spent two years following a mother trying to rescue her daughter from homelessness and the pull of fentanyl. She won the 2022 Scripps Howard Award for Excellence in Opinion Writing and was named the top columnist by the California News Publishers Association.
