Allison Arieff, S.F. Chronicle columnist & editorial writer, a founding editor of Dwell, former editorial director of print MIT Technology Review & book author
A longtime San Francisco resident, Allison Arieff recently joined the Chronicle from MIT Technology Review, where she was the editorial director of print. She was previously editorial director of the Bay Area urban planning and policy think tank, SPUR, and was a regular columnist for the New York Times Opinion section from 2007–2020, focusing on cities, design and technology. She was also the editor in chief of the design and architecture magazine Dwell, which won the National Magazine Award for General Excellence during her tenure. She is the author of several books, including Prefab, and has contributed to numerous others including The Future of Public Space and Cars: Accelerating the Mode World.
