Journalism students can improve their grades through tutoring by as much as a full letter grade. It’s never too late to join.

The tutoring, called Supplemental Instruction (SI), takes place in HUM 303 Monday -Thursday or can be set up via a Zoom session. Students can attend any session at any point in the semester. The more sessions a student attends, the better the outcome.

SI includes help with AP style, editing stories, pitching ideas, applications, resumes or anything else in the world of journalism that students are finding difficult.

SI also gives students the opportunity to meet other journalism majors and minors and hear about the stories they are working on.

So why don’t students attend?

According to Assistant Professor Laura Moorhead, they claim to be “too busy.” That shouldn’t be an excuse because students have the option to participate in person or remotely.

According to data from Moorhead, the more sessions students attended the more benefits they received, including getting to know other students and hearing how they were doing their own assignments.

All sessions will take place in HUM 303

  • Mondays: 11-Noon, 2-4 p.m., Amelia Williams

  • Tuesdays: 1-3:30 p.m., Sylvie Sturm

  • Wednesdays: 12-2 p.m., Sylvie Sturm

  • Thursdays: 12-2 p.m., Sylvie Sturm
