Mojo Interactive Editor Tells Students to Do What Feels Comfortable

Thursday, November 15, 2012

In the age of social media, there seems to be an unwritten rule that journalists today must live and die by the demands of social media. But Tasneem Raja, the interactive editor at Mother Jones said otherwise to SF State Journalism students on Tuesday Nov. 13. Instead, she said, you should do what feels right. First, she said, you should ask yourself, why you feel uncomfortable, say using social media. Is it because you don't think you can do it? If that's the answer then, you should force yourself to use social media. But if you don't like using social media because you feel it's taking you away from the work you really want to do, then don't feel so obligated to do it. Follow your passion, she said.
