Full Time Lecturer Position SF State Journalism Department

The Journalism Department at San Francisco State University invites applicants capable of teaching upper- and lower-division courses to apply for a Visiting Lecturer position.

Journalism department courses to be taught by this position include:

(a) An advanced writing course
(b) Reporting, and
(c) one or more of the following areas: data journalism, student publication advisor, cultural diversity, editing, social impact of journalism.

This is a non-tenure appointment for a single academic year beginning August 2014 and ending May 2015. The position has the rank of Lecturer and carries a teaching load of 3 or 4 courses per semester.

The position requires full involvement in the undergraduate program including weekly office hours and regular participation in departmental meetings and events.

The minimum requirements for this position are:
• A BA/BS degree
• College level experience teaching journalism
• Experience in online, print or broadcast news.

Preferred:

The ideal candidate will have a record of distinguished professional journalism.

Preference given to those with college teaching that engages and encourages students to think beyond traditional concepts of media. Preference also is to those who hold a Master’s degree in journalism or a related field.
