Covering the Border and the Asylum Crisis from a Bilingual, Bicultural Perspective Conference
“Covering the Border and the Asylum Crisis from a Bilingual- Bicultural Perspective,” organized by the Journalism and International Relations Departments will take place April 9 in Library room 121 from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. at San Francisco State University.
Top US and Mexico immigration reporters will participate in three panels on topics involving the importance of reporting immigration from a bicultural perspective. Anyone interested can come further their skills and knowledge while getting advice from experienced journalists.
“Immigration is one of the most important issues in the United States right now,” said Lourdes Cárdenas, Journalism Professor at San Francisco State University and the co-organizer of the conference." As journalism professors, we need to provide our students with more tools to cover this topic.”
Panelists include Alfredo Corchado a Mexico Border correspondent from the Dallas Morning News, Monica Campbell, senior radio reporter for The World, Angela Kocherga, immigration reporter for the Albuquerque Journal and Dianne Solis, former immigration reporter from the Dallas Morning News.
The Department of Journalism's annual alumni gathering follows the conference at 6:30 p.m. in the same location.
