Changing your major to Journalism or adding Journalism as a minor

The SF State Journalism Department was founded in 1960. We are housed in the College of Liberal and Creative Arts and have a long tradition in language arts, literature, liberal arts and the humanities. We place emphasis on strong research, writing, and critical-thinking skills. We are particularly steeped in the traditions of journalism as an agent of social change and a bulwark for a healthy democracy. We expect students and journalists from our program to follow ethical and legal tenets in their practices of journalism and these principles are fully integrated in skills courses. We also expect our students and graduates to remain open minded about the world, recognize their own biases and limitations, try to mitigate them through thorough reporting and questioning, and to stay ever curious about the world and its interdependence.
